Class XI student hits the mark with seven-medal haul

Chandigarh: All of 16, Class XI student Krishdha has won seven medals at the 51st Chandigarh State Shooting Championship held at the Police Shooting Range, Sector 25.Krishdha, a Humanities student, clinched gold in the 10-metre air pistol ISSF senior and junior women categories and silver in the youth women and sub-youth women categories. She also secured bronze in the 25-metre sports pistol ISSF junior women and youth women categories. Her seventh medal came in the 50-metre free pistol ISSF women category, in which she won gold.What drives Krishdha is her passion for the sport, to which her father, Kuldeep Vashisth, introduced her. When she started training around three years ago, she discovered an almost meditative quality in the game.When asked how she manages academics and a gruelling training schedule from 1 pm to 6 pm, she said the desire to achieve motivates her to work hard.Krishdha trains at the Police Shooting Range in Sector 25 under coach Baburam. She said shooting requires not just technical ability but also a steady hand, focus and mental composure.“Before taking a shot, I have a clear mind. Nothing disturbs the process,” she said.Her parents, Kuldeep Vashisth, who runs a business, and homemaker Anita Vashisth, have been supportive of her sporting ambitions.Among her sporting inspirations is Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker.
