Guwahati: The city will host the inaugural Guwahati International Marathon on Feb 7, 2027, with about 12,000 people expected to participate.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the event on Thursday in the presence of cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. PMG Sports LLP will promote the marathon, while the Assam Tourism Development Corporation will be its state sponsor.The event will offer total prize money of Rs 1.25 crore.“We see this as the beginning of a lasting sporting legacy — an annual event that will inspire fitness, encourage sporting talent and create new opportunities for the state. I extend my best wishes to the organisers,” Sarma said in a statement.Gavaskar said it was time for Guwahati to join the world’s major marathon cities.“Our vision is to build the Guwahati International Marathon into an iconic global event, attracting leading runners from across the world,” he added.
