Gurgaon: District, sub-divisional, block and village-level committees were constituted on Friday to monitor and prevent incidents of open wheat stubble burning. According to an order issued by the deputy commissioner, these committees will closely oversee compliance across rural areas and ensure swift action against violations.Deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, Uttam Singh, has directed all committees to maintain strict monitoring and take prompt action to eliminate stubble burning incidents during the harvesting season. DC issued strict directives against incidents of wheat crop residue burning in the district, stating that immediate action must be ensured upon receiving any such report. “Strict legal steps should be taken against farmers found burning residue, in order to prevent environmental damage,” said the DC.Taking cognisance of residue burning incidents, he directed the agriculture department to register FIRs in such cases without delay. Additionally, red entries of the concerned farmers are to be made on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal. He stated that if any farmer is found burning residue, action in the form of a fine, FIR and red entry on the portal will be mandatorily taken against them. The DC informed that in the event of a red entry, the concerned farmer will not be able to sell their crop at the mandi for the next two years and will also be deprived of benefits under schemes. He further directed that if the agriculture department’s field visit teams fail to act in a timely manner, show cause notices should also be issued to the concerned officials.The district-level committee will be led by the additional deputy commissioner, with senior officials from revenue, panchayat, agriculture and the pollution control board as members. At the sub-divisional level, SDMs, ACPs, tehsildars and agriculture officers will coordinate enforcement, while block and village-level teams — including BDPOs, SHOs, agriculture staff, patwaris, panchayat officials and sarpanches — will maintain ground vigilance. The administration has directed all committees to act immediately to curb stubble burning and safeguard air quality.The DC appealed to farmers to make maximum use of available agricultural machinery instead of burning crop residue, and to contribute to environmental protection by incorporating the residue into the soil. He directed officials to create awareness among farmers about schemes related to crop residue management, so that they can ensure their participation in environmental protection by adopting alternative measures.
