Pune: Monsoon activity picked up on Wednesday, bringing light to moderate showers across Pune district, while the adjoining ghat areas continued to experience heavy rainfall.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall within the city limits remained relatively modest between 8.30am and 8.30pm. Shivajinagar recorded 11mm, Lohegaon 13mm, Chinchwad 12.5mm and NDA 7mm. No measurable rainfall was reported in Magarpatta, Koregaon Park and Lavale during this period.In contrast, the ghat regions received widespread heavy rainfall in the 24 hours ending Wednesday morning. Bhira reported the highest rainfall at 249mm, followed by Dungerwadi (140mm), Tamhini (120mm), Dharavi (111mm), Shirgaon (110mm), Koyna (Pophali) (99mm), Dawdi (92mm), Lonavla (OFF) (74mm), Ambone (68mm), Koyna (Navja) (65mm), Walvan (56mm), Khopoli (55mm), Lonavla (Tata) (48mm), Bhivpuri (46mm) and Shirota (33mm).In the 24-hour period ending at 8.30am on Wednesday, Shivajinagar recorded 5.3mm of rainfall, while Pashan received 3.1mm and Chinchwad 8mm. Other areas, including Hadapsar, Rajgurunagar, Haveli, Lavale and Baramati, saw only light showers.Rainfall intensified further through the day. By 5.30pm, Girivan had recorded 34mm, followed by Bhor (20mm), Talegaon (8.5mm), NDA (6.5mm), Rajgurunagar (6mm) and Malin (6mm). An IMD official said, “Generally cloudy conditions with thunderstorms, lightning and light rain are expected in Pune and surrounding areas over the next three days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in the ghat regions, with isolated spells of extremely heavy rain.”
