Union home minister Amit Shah opens 400-bed tower of private hospital
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a new 400-bed tower at Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital.

NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah Thursday inaugurated Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital, Saket’s new 400-bed tower, taking the integrated Saket facility’s capacity to around 1,200 beds and making it the largest private hospital in the city by bed capacity.In a post on X, Shah said, “Inaugurated the new building of the Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital in Saket, Delhi. The new facility marks another milestone in the hospital chain’s 25-year journey of service to the people, in which it provided 3.60 lakh people with state-of-the-art free medical care worth Rs 244 crore in the past year alone. This new addition will further expand these services, benefiting more people.The expansion comes amid rising demand for advanced tertiary and quaternary care in Delhi-NCR, with Max Healthcare chairperson and MD Abhay Soi warning that the region could face a significant shortage of hospital capacity over the next 10-15 years.Soi said Delhi-NCR currently has fewer than 10,000 private-sector hospital beds, while the requirement could rise to around 40,000 beds over the next 15 years. He said this would require a major expansion of healthcare capacity.Max Healthcare plans to increase its overall capacity from around 6,000 beds to more than 10,000 beds, with investments of over Rs 6,000 crore. Soi said the company is redeploying its free cash flow to create additional capacity.The inauguration was attended by Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri. Soi said around 45% of Max’s Delhi business comes from other states and cities, while international patients account for about 9%.
