Kolkata: Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday entrusted all govt agencies and departments concerned with the task of repairing battered roads in the port area in Garden Reach and Taratala at the earliest.The CM had earlier set a deadline of Oct 10 for all agencies to complete road repairs ahead of puja.Adhikari on Tuesday held a review meeting with the Kolkata port trust, Garden Reach Ship Builders, PWD and KMC officials at Nabanna to discuss on the condition of roads in the port areas of Taratala and Garden Reach and directed fast-track repair of the stretches.The meeting was called a day after Adhikari travelled to Garden Reach with Union defence minister Rajnath Singh and noticed the poor condition of roads there. “I have met three separate groups. I met PWD officials twice and funds were sanctioned for road repairs, the panchayat department was given the job to repair 3,200 roads in its areas and the urban development and municipal affairs department was told to repair roads in their jurisdictions,” the CM had told reporters on Monday. Adhikari had said that as of now, patch work would be conducted to fill potholes and thorough repairs, with fresh bitumen layer, would be carried out after monsoon. “ A deadline of Oct 10 has been set, within which more or less all existing roads will be covered,” he said on Monday.
