Ahmedabad: AMC’s standing committee discussed Friday’s downpour and announced installing CCTV cameras at 148 spots that get frequently waterlogged.Standing committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said, “Several areas witnessed waterlogging after the heavy rain that lashed the city early Friday morning. A total of 148 waterlogging spots that have historically faced inundation issues have been identified. Special precautions are taken at these locations. During a visit to the control room this morning, it came to light that some of these spots could not be monitored effectively. Therefore, at the standing committee meeting, instructions were issued to install CCTV cameras at all waterlogging spots and link them to the control room.”Patel said that this will help with direct and continuous surveillance of the water levels and help verify if designated officials and teams are present at the site. “The existing setup at spots where CCTV cameras are already available will remain in place, while instructions have been given to install cameras at all remaining waterlogging spots with immediate effect,” he said.He further added: “Last year, the rainfall forecasts provided by C-DAC — tailored to specific wards, precise locations, and timelines — proved to be useful and accurate, so this collaboration was continued this year as well. However, because some recent forecasts did not yield the expected results, instructions have been given to review the performance of C-DAC’s software. Directives have been issued to examine the necessary technical aspects to ensure that rainfall forecasts are received in a timely and accurate manner.”
