Hyderabad: Police registered an FIR against 15 individuals, including organisers and temple committee members, for organising an event in which animals were allegedly sacrificed at the Adibatla Beerappa temple.Activists claimed about 50 goats and sheep were sacrificed at the event held in Ibrahimpatnam on April 27.“In videos uploaded by influencers on social media, one can clearly see animals being sacrificed at the temple. About 50 animals were taken for sacrificing. Necessary action should be taken against all organisers and committee members,” A Goutham, the complainant, told TOI. He added that several local leaders and politicians were in attendance at the event.Based on a complaint from an animal activist, police registered a case under section 325 of the BNS, which pertains to mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering any animal useless.Animal activists claim that though animal sacrifice is traditionally practised in many temples in various states, including Telangana, it is a punishable offence. They said they have been actively filing complaints against alleged sacrifices and cruelty against animals.
