Call for coordinated action to prevent human trafficking, witch hunting
District Committee meets in Dibrugarh to chart roadmap to eradicate human trafficking and witch hunting

Dibrugarh: Efforts to eradicate human trafficking and witch hunting are focusing on coordinated action, victim rehabilitation and grassroots awareness.The issues were discussed at a committee meeting, “Human Trafficking and End Witch Hunting”, held Monday at the DC’s office under department of women and child development.DC Bikram Kairi and SSP Abhijit Gurav jointly chaired the meeting, which was attended by zilla parishad CEO Dipu Kumar Deka, district development commissioner Nandita Baruah, assistant commissioners, the district social welfare officer, and other officials.Officials stressed timely information sharing and stronger interdepartmental coordination for early identification and intervention. They also emphasised victim protection, long-term rehabilitation and reintegration.“Human trafficking and witch hunting remain serious challenges that require sustained vigilance and close cooperation among all departments. No single agency can address these issues in isolation. We need real-time information sharing and a coordinated response mechanism to prevent such incidents and to ensure that victims receive timely protection and rehabilitation,” Kairi said.Gurav called for proactive policing and community engagement. Officials underlined the need for grassroots awareness, particularly in remote and vulnerable areas where superstition-driven violence, including witch hunting, continues to threaten lives, especially those of women.
