Cabinet nod to fast-track insurance claims for flood-affected

Guwahati: Assam cabinet on Friday announced relief measures for flood-hit Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat and Jorhat districts.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the govt would meet with public and private insurers to expedite claims for flood-damaged houses, vehicles and other property. It will also meet non-banking financial companies.The cabinet approved nearly Rs 8 crore from the CM’s Relief Fund for Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan to provide fresh uniforms to affected students. Textbook distribution began on Thursday, and officials are compiling details of affected students.The govt will complete damage assessments in Aug to expedite compensation and provide Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh each to repair damaged educational institutions.The cabinet also approved the Assam Compressed Biogas Policy, 2026, offering capital subsidies, power tariff support, land incentives and tax reimbursements to promote the conversion of organic waste into clean energy.It amended the Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Subordinate Service Rules, 2026, to streamline recruitment of veterinary field assistants and cleared the Assam Legal Metrology (Govt Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2026, enabling self- and third-party certification of weighing and measuring instruments.It notified Raikushni and Tharko Nalbari in Goalpara as reserve forests under the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891.
