Amritsar: Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has urged Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari to approve an elevated corridor linking Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport with the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, saying the city must expand its road infrastructure before traffic increases further.According to a statement issued by Aujla’s office on Thursday, he told Gadkari that Amritsar, a major international gateway, was already facing heavy traffic on Airport Road and the situation would worsen once the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway became fully operational and the proposed international cricket stadium came up.Aujla proposed an elevated corridor from Gumtala Bypass via the airport at Rajasansi to the roundabout on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway near Morcha Sahib Gurdwara. He said the project would provide signal-free connectivity between the airport, the expressway and the city, easing congestion and reducing travel time.The MP urged Gadkari to direct the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake a feasibility study and prepare a detailed project report (DPR) at the earliest. He also sought priority status for the project to ensure its early execution.According to the statement, Aujla said the corridor would improve connectivity to the airport and the expressway, besides supporting tourism, trade and religious travel while reducing congestion in the city.
