Brother-in-law among 4 held for YouTuber’s murder

Hyderabad: Four persons, including his brother-in-law, were arrested on Monday for their alleged role in the murder of 26-year-old influencer Masood Chandi in Kummarwadi last week.The victim, Shaik Mahboob alias Masood Chandi, 26, was an electrician from Kummarwadi in Golconda. Masood used to upload bodybuilding videos on YouTube and had over 2,500 followers. Masood was bludgeoned and stabbed to death at his house on June 12 by a group of assailants.After the murder, Masood’s father Shaik Ismail, an auto driver, lodged a complaint at Golconda police station alleging that four assailants barged into their house around 3pm. “The accused, carrying an iron rod and a knife, launched a murderous attack on my son,” the complainant said.During the probe, police found that the assailants were Masood’s brother-in-law Sk Zahed alias Sohail, a student-cum-private worker; his cousins Zeeshan Nawab alias Jaber, 30, a milk vendor, Amer Nawab alias Laddu, 26, a construction worker; and their mother, Nafeez Sultana, 48, a catering worker from Kummarwadi.According to assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Tolichowki, Syed Fayaz, Masood had married Sohail’s sister Rukshar Begum in Jan 2025 against the wishes of her family. In Dec 2025, Rukshar gave birth to a baby boy. “A few days before the murder, Sohail visited Masood’s house along with his family members and forcibly took Rukshar away after an argument on June 8. While leaving, Sohail also said that he would not allow Rukshar to return to her husband. Sohail also said that he will ensure Rukshar divorces Masood,” the ACP added.On April 12, Sohail, along with the other accused, reached Masood’s house and attacked him with a rod, a knife and a cricket bat. Mahboob collapsed on the spot with severe injuries and died. Masood’s father also sustained minor injuries to his right hand and cheek while trying to save his son, police said.On Ismail’s complaint, a case was booked under Section 103(1) (Murder), 329(4) (Criminal trespass), 118 (Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) read with 3 (5) (Common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act at Golconda Police Station. Acting on a specific alert, police arrested the four accused from Kummarwadi on Monday. They will be produced before court for judicial remand.
