Boy electrocuted while playing spinning top at school in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district

Bengaluru: A 16-year-old student playing a spinning top on the premises of a govt school in Tumakuru district was allegedly electrocuted Friday evening.R Puneeth, of Borappanahatti in Tovinakere in Koratagere taluk, was studying in PU first year. His father Ravikumar, a daily wage worker, lodged the complaint with Koratagere police, accusing Bescom officials of causing the death due to negligence.According to Ravikumar, Puneeth, along with a few other boys, was playing near an electricity pole that supplies power to the govt school at Tovinakere. “One of the wires from the pole was hanging loose and despite complaining to Bescom, the problem was not addressed. The same unattended wire caused my son’s death,” Kumar said in his complaint.Based on Kumar’s complaint, cops booked unnamed officials. However, no arrests have been made.An investigating police officer said they are awaiting a report from the electric inspector. “Bescom officials claim that there was an earthing problem, which they repaired recently, and no wire was hanging loosely. But some fault is there for sure and it claimed the life of the boy,” he said.
