Mumbai: Even as water stocks in the seven lakes supplying Mumbai have climbed to nearly 70% of total capacity, the BMC is unlikely to withdraw the 10% water cut imposed from May 15 due to depleted reservoir levels. At one point in June, the combined water stock dropped to below 10%, prompting the civic body to enforce water conservation measures.Civic officials said they are reluctant to lift the water cut as the impact of the monsoon in Aug and Sept is uncertain and reservoir levels may not rise as expected.Additional municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar, who oversees the civic hydraulic department, said the BMC would consider withdrawing the curbs only if the seven lakes reach 100% storage by Sept 30.“We need the reservoirs to reach full capacity by Sept 30 before we can withdraw the 10% water cut. As of now, there are no plans to lift the water cut or revoke the restrictions on filling swimming pools,” Bangar said.
