Mumbai: Taking a cue from the Maharashtra government’s Chief Minister Fellowship programme, which brings young professionals into the government to gain hands-on experience in governance and policy-making, the BMC is now set to introduce its own fellowship programme, with 50 fellows to be deployed across key civic offices.The BMC’s General Administration Department has proposed to appoint the fellows on a one-year contractual basis, with postings in the offices of the municipal commissioner, additional commissioners, mayor, standing committee chairman and heads of various departments.The Maharashtra Chief Minister Fellowship programme, launched in 2015, was designed to bring young professionals into the govt and give them practical exposure to public administration while allowing the government to benefit from their fresh perspectives and skills.The administration said the fellows would provide support to senior officials while gaining first-hand experience of how the country’s largest municipal corporation functions.The fellows will work on policy implementation, project planning, data analysis, preparation of reports and administrative coordination. They may also assist departments in tracking and monitoring civic projects and other initiatives.Officials clarified that the fellows will not be regular BMC employees. They will be engaged for a fixed period and their role will be to support the functioning of the offices or departments to which they are attached. Eligible candidates can apply online through the BMC website till Aug 31, 2026. The advertisement specifies the educational qualifications, remuneration, selection process and other terms and conditions for the fellowship.
