BMC issues public notice on suspended 19,734 birth correction entries, seeks documents for verification by Oct 30

Mumbai: BMC has issued a public notice asking citizens linked to the 19,734 birth-correction entries made from 2024 to 2026 and suspended in its SAP system to submit documents for verification at their respective ward offices by Oct 30.The civic administration said the birth-correction entries were suspended after checks found that the required documents unavailable or incomplete. It has clarified that no changes have been made to the original birth records. These citizens have been informed through letters sent to the addresses mentioned in their birth certificates that they can complete the required formalities by submitting an application, their old birth certificate and valid supporting documents to the BMC ward office concerned by Oct 30. After verification, fresh QR-coded certificates will be issued through the Civil Registration System (CRS). The list of the 19,734 birth correction entries is available on BMC’s website under ‘Birth Correction Data 2024 to 2026’.A senior BMC official said, “All registrations are being made through CRS now; the SAP system has been stopped. The reason for putting out this public notice is so that by means of natural justice, everyone involved gets a fair chance to represent their case. In a majority of these 19,734 birth correction entries, it was found that there wasn’t any documentation that was submitted and hence since corrections are in no way acceptable.”Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said the decision followed nearly a year of his follow-up and came after the suspension of three health officials. He claimed the decision had been delayed by five months and was taken following intervention by the Chief Minister’s Office. Somaiya said a joint meeting on the issue is scheduled for Thursday, along with officials concerned from the health department as the guardian minister has also taken note of the matter.
