BMC demolishes 250 illegal structures in Powai

Mumbai: BMC on Saturday demolished around 250 unauthorised structures in the Fukat Nagar and Milind Nagar areas of Powai as part of a joint anti-encroachment drive carried out by the S ward office and the civic water engineering department.Civic officials said the structures came up on land belonging to the hydraulic department.The operation involved around 150 police personnel, 50 engineering officers and staff from the S ward and water engineering department, and nearly 200 labourers. Seven JCB machines, 10 dumpers and other vehicles were deployed for the drive.Civic officials said the land will be completely cleared of encroachments and fencing will be erected around the plot once the demolition is completed to prevent fresh illegal occupation.
