Bengaluru: A blessing from two self-styled Naga sadhus turned into an expensive lesson for a businessman, who allegedly lost his gold ring to a clever distraction theft in Vijayanagar.RPC Layout resident Arun Sripadrao, 55, told police the incident occurred on June 12 when he visited the office of his friend, Deepa, on the service road. Two men, posing as Naga sadhus, approached them around noon. Speaking in Hindi, they struck up a conversation about Varanasi, Ayodhya and other religious places they supposedly visited. They asked about Arun’s family and business and offered to bless him for prosperity and well-being.Arun initially declined, stating he already worshipped his own deity. However, the duo persisted and asked for a piece of paper so they could give him sacred vibhuti (ash) as blessing. One of the men placed vibhuti in Arun’s hand and touched a trident to his head while performing what appeared to be a religious ritual.During the process, the accused allegedly removed Arun’s gold ring worth Rs 1.3 lakh from his finger. It was only after the duo left, did Arun realise his ring was missing. Suspecting that the impostors diverted his attention under the guise of offering blessings, he approached Vijayanagar police and lodged a complaint on June 13.
