Panchkula: Additional sessions judge-cum-vacation judge Bikramjit Aroura has granted regular bail to BJP leader Mahender Kumar, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in a racket procuring and using forged medical registration and academic certificates. Kumar, who had been in custody since March 26, was granted relief upon furnishing a ₹50,000 bail bond and a surety of the same amount. The case dates back to 2023, when an FIR was registered at the Sector 5 police station under IPC sections relating to cheating, forgery, using forged documents, and criminal conspiracy. The enforcement action originated from a complaint filed by the registrar of the Council of Indian Medicine, Haryana, after a registration certificate submitted under Kumar’s name was found to be fake during a verification drive.According to the prosecution, the forged certificate was part of a broader conspiracy involving an organised racket where fake medical qualifications and registration documents were traded for money involving multiple individuals. However, Kumar’s defense counsel, Sakshi Kaul, argued in court that no specific role had been attributed to her client, the case relied entirely on documents, and no further custodial interrogation was necessary. In the bail order, the court observed that the investigation against Kumar stands completed and the charge sheet has already been filed. The judge noted that because the evidence is primarily documentary and already in the custody of investigators, keeping the accused jailed before the conclusion of the trial was not warranted. While acknowledging that the allegations are serious, the court held that the guilt or innocence of the accused can only be determined during the trial. The bail was granted subject to strict conditions, including complete cooperation with the ongoing trial and a directive prohibiting any interference with witnesses or evidence.
