Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led govt over two separate murders in Amritsar, in which a police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a 25-year-old youth were allegedly shot dead within a span of 12 hours. In a written statement, Dhillon alleged, “The AAP govt continues to claim that law and order in Punjab is under control, but the ground reality tells a different story.”He asked, “When a police personnel responsible for protecting citizens is not safe while on duty, and a young man is murdered barely 50 metres from a police post, who can ordinary citizens turn to for their safety?”Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) also slammed the Punjab govt, accusing it of having “completely failed to control the law-and-order situation”.Speaking to the media, SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema alleged, “The situation is extremely serious because there have been grenade attacks on police stations at different places. Then, just yesterday, there was another incident involving the killing of an ASI while on duty in Amritsar. This, in itself, presents a very disturbing picture of Punjab.”Cheema added, “On one side, there is such a huge problem of drugs; on the other, consignments of weapons are coming into the state; and, on the third side, incidents like these are taking place. Even murders of ordinary people have become almost a daily occurrence. Murders, robberies and such incidents have become routine.”
