Bengaluru: Biocon’s net profit surged more than fourfold to Rs 141 crore in the June quarter from Rs 31 crore a year earlier, led by robust growth in its biosimilars and generics businesses.The Bengaluru-based biopharmaceutical company’s income increased 9% year-on-year to Rs 4,391 crore in the first quarter of FY27.Its biopharma business, which includes biosimilars and generics, reported a 17% rise in revenue to Rs 3,615 crore. Biosimilars revenue increased 16% to Rs 2,855 crore, while generics revenue grew 21% to Rs 760 crore. The company said growth was supported by the ramp-up of recently launched products in key markets, particularly North America.However, revenue from the services business, housed under Syngene, declined 16% to Rs 736 crore as the segment continued to face headwinds from the previous year.Biocon said it launched biosimilar products Bosaya, Aukelso and Yesafili, besides generic Liraglutide, in the US. It also secured European regulatory approval for a new insulin drug-product fill-finish facility in Malaysia.Chief executive and managing director Shreehas Tambe said the company expects growth momentum to accelerate through the year, leading to a stronger performance in the second half.
