BATHINDA: The Faisalabad district administration is planning to build a monument devoted to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh ahead of his 119th birth anniversary under the beautification drive of Faisalabad. Faisalabad earlier Lyallpur is the native district of birth of Bhagat Singh, who was born at Chak 105 GB Bange village in Jarawala tehsil of then Lyallpur in undivided India on September 28, 1907. His native home was refurbished many years ago.As per reports in Pakistan media, Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner Nouman Siddique the district administration under the preservation of heritage intends the monument to highlight Bhagat Singh’ connection with the area as he was the hero of freedom struggle before partition.Earlier, Bhagat Singh gallery had been opened at Poonch House Lahore belonging to the Department of Industries, in Pakistan, on December 30, 2024. The historic photos, letters and other documents from the freedom movement era have been kept in the gallery. Poonch house is where the trial against Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev was conducted in Lahore Conspiracy Case in 1929-1930.A demand had been made for long to rename a roundabout known as Shadman or Fowara Chowk as Bhagat Singh Chowk in Lahore as the place was part of Central Hail in the past where the trio was hanged on March 23, 1931. The Lahore high court had rejected the plea.Lahore based Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation has welcomed the decision of the Faisalabad district administration. Foundation Chairman Imtiaz Rasheed Quereshi, who is die-hard follower of Bhagat Singh said he (Bhagat Singh), who struggled for independence in ore partition era should be declared a common hero.
