Bengaluru: In a letter to the inspector at Pulakeshinagar police station, the assistant executive engineer for Maruthiseva Nagar sub-division of Bengaluru north city corporation has sought police protection at Jeevanahalli sports ground for installation of artificial turf. The letter mentions that a few residents around Jeevanahalli ground have been obstructing the work. The artificial turf is being installed under CSR funds provided by Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd.TOI has reported on the resistance put up by regular users of the ground, which they fondly call Sir Ground, and by residents nearby. They called on Sarvajnanagar MLA K J George and Bangalore Central MP P C Mohan in Nov last year for help. The residents have two main concerns: conversion of the natural ground to artificial turf, and possible restrictions on access to the ground after installing the turf.“Around Rs 8 crore have already been spent on renovation of the ground and construction of the sports complex. The MoU for CSR funds was signed about 10 days back, and the work has already begun. Citizens are unable to stop this as it is backed by the MLA,” N Satish Kumar, a local resident, said.MSID:: 130310452 413 |
