BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Tuesday suspended a conductor pending a departmental inquiry after a video purportedly showing him pushing a passenger out of a bus and physically assaulting him went viral on social media.The incident took place on August 2, news agency PTI reported.In a statement, the BMTC said it had taken serious note of the video circulated on social media platforms, which allegedly showed the on-duty conductor pushing a passenger out of the bus and physically assaulting him.“The video purportedly depicts the conductor allegedly pushing a passenger out of the bus and physically assaulting him. As the video has received widespread circulation on social media and has raised public concern, BMTC has initiated immediate action,” it said.According to BMTC, the conductor was placed under suspension pending a departmental inquiry as a preliminary administrative measure to facilitate a fair and impartial investigation, without prejudice to the outcome of the inquiry.“A comprehensive departmental inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts of the incident. The investigation will include examination of the statements of the concerned conductor, the passenger involved, eyewitnesses, CCTV footage from the bus (where available), and all other relevant evidence before arriving at any conclusion,” it said.The BMTC said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, discourteous behaviour, or any act that compromises the dignity, safety, or rights of passengers.“Should the allegations be substantiated during the inquiry, appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated against the concerned employee in accordance with the applicable service rules and regulations,” it added.(With agency inputs)
