BCom student suffers burns after acid attack

Varanasi: A 24-year-old student sustained burn injuries after an unidentified person allegedly threw acid on him while he was sleeping on the verandah of his house in Veerbhanpur Odar village, police said on Friday.The incident occurred around 3 am on Wednesday. The victim, Chandresh Patel, was asleep when the attacker allegedly hurled acid at him, causing severe burns. Hearing his screams, family members rushed to his aid and took him to a private hospital in Bhadwar, where he was undergoing treatment.Chandresh’s father, Ramnaresh Patel, said his son is a BCom student at a college in Bhairav Talab. He added that the family is unaware of any personal enmity that could have led to the attack.After receiving information, a Dial-112 team and personnel from Rajatalab police station reached the spot and collected evidence. Rajatalab SHO Dayaram later visited the hospital and recorded the victim’s statement.The victim’s father subsequently submitted a written complaint at the police station.Police said a case is being examined and all possible angles are being probed to identify the assailant and establish the motive behind the attack.
