Baruipur killing: 4 BJP workers arrested

Kolkata: Police have arrested four BJP members in connection with the murder of party worker Bapi Pramanik in Baruipur, with investigators identifying Sujan Mondal as the alleged mastermind. Local BJP functionaries, however, claimed Mondal had already been expelled from the party.The arrested men were identified as Sujan Mondal, Krishna Mondal, Kanak Mondal and Anil Naya, all residents of North Tangarberia. Police detained and questioned them after searches in the area on Monday night and subsequently arrested them after allegedly finding inconsistencies in their statements.Pramanik, a long-time BJP worker, was attacked in North Tangarberia on Sunday night. His family said he was called out of his home over the phone and intercepted on the way. He was allegedly beaten and attacked with sharp weapons before succumbing to his injuries.Based on a complaint by the family, an FIR was lodged against Mondal, who was accused of planning the attack with Trinamool-backed miscreants. Pramanik’s family claimed he had spent much of the past decade away from home following alleged attacks and harassment by Trinamool supporters. He had returned after the BJP came to power and recently opened a shop in the area. Police said the motive and possible involvement of others were being investigated.
