Bengaluru: Bangalore University (BU) convened a coordination meeting Friday on road safety and campus security following the death of a first-year student in a road accident inside the campus.The meeting, chaired by vice-chancellor C Shivaraju, was attended by DCP (Southwest division) Anitha Haddannavar and senior police officials.Haddannavar said given the narrow width of Gandhi Road, traffic experts would conduct a detailed study on introducing one-way traffic and other measures. Traffic police personnel would also be deployed on campus to regulate traffic and prevent such incidents, she added.The meeting reviewed safety concerns at the Jnanabharathi campus, including heavy vehicular movement, speeding, movement of heavy vehicles, and unauthorised parking.The university said it would initiate the process to restrict thoroughfare inside the campus in consultation with the state govt and university syndicate. Until a final decision is taken, interim measures will include introducing one-way traffic on Gandhi Road, creating dedicated pedestrian pathways, removing unauthorised roadside shops, and installing CCTV cameras on major campus roads.The cameras are to be integrated with the city police commissioner’s command and control centre. The university also plans to strengthen regular police patrolling and maintain strict surveillance to prevent illegal and anti-social activities on campus.
