Jaisalmer: Students and parents protested at the Govt Higher Secondary School in Majal village of Samdari block in Balotra district Monday after nine teachers were transferred, aggravating an existing staff shortage. Protesters locked the school gate and held a sit-in, demanding the appointment of lecturers and additional teachers.Education department officials reached the protest site and negotiated with demonstrators. The protest concluded after three hours when it was assured that three teachers would be appointed on deputation and that their other demands would be relayed to higher authorities.The govt school, which runs Arts, Science and Agriculture streams up to senior secondary level, was hit especially by the transfer of lecturers handling senior secondary classes. Protesters said two teachers were posted after the transfers but the shortage continued to disrupt teaching.In response, Additional Chief Block Education Officer Umrao Singh Charan confirmed the appointment of three teachers and the forwarding of remaining issues to senior officials, prompting the protesters to call off their demonstration.
