Bail granted in Margao counterfeit currency case

Colva: Additional sessions judge Sudhir S Shirgaonkar granted bail to Abdul Nisar, who was arrested for attempting to deposit counterfeit currency notes at a Margao bank.On Feb 8, the accused attempted to deposit 98 forged/counterfeit Indian currency notes of Rs 500 denomination into the cash deposit machine of IDBI Bank, in an account belonging to Kansul Haq, with the intention of circulating the forged currency notes as genuine.Police said the accused was detained at Sahara International Airport, Mumbai, pursuant to an LOC issued against him. CCTV footage from the bank showed the accused entering the ATM carrying a bag, removing currency notes from it and attempting to deposit them in the machine, thereby establishing his involvement in the offence.Judge Shirgaonkar observed that the applicant need not be detained further, as the chargesheet has already been filed. He ordered his release on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of like amount.
