Varanasi: Azamgarh police arrested a man from Maharashtra on Saturday for allegedly circulating the intimate photos and videos of a 23-year-old woman on social media, distressing her to the extent that she allegedly committed suicide. The accused, Pramod Gond, was brought to Azamgarh on Tuesday after police obtained transit remand from a Palghar court.The woman died during treatment on July 15, eight days after allegedly attempting suicide by hanging herself on July 7.On the complaint of her father, police at Raunapar police station in Azamgarh registered an FIR on July 13 against Pramod. The complaint alleged that Pramod had befriended the woman, established a relationship with her, and recorded her intimate photos and videos. He allegedly used the material to threaten her and pressure her into continuing the relationship.Police said Pramod was already married. When the woman’s marriage was fixed elsewhere, he allegedly circulated her intimate photos and videos on social media.A joint team of Raunapar police and the cyber cell traced the accused’s mobile location to Boisar in Palghar district, Maharashtra. The team arrested him on Saturday from a company in Boisar with the assistance of local police.Azamgarh ASP Rural Chirag Jain said the accused was medically examined and produced before a Palghar court. After obtaining transit remand, police brought him to Azamgarh on Tuesday for further legal proceedings.
