Varanasi: To promote responsible e-waste disposal and recycling while preventing electronic waste from entering the city’s regular waste stream, Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has launched a citywide initiative for the safe disposal and recycling of electronic waste.As part of the initiative, the civic body has authorised ‘AdMyBin’ to collect and process discarded electronic items.Municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal said e-waste would be collected directly from households, with citizens and institutions receiving payment for the material handed over to the authorised agency. The service will also cover offices, schools, colleges, institutions, industries and bulk waste generators. Awareness programmes and collection drives will be organised to encourage responsible disposal of electronic waste.The civic body has urged residents not to mix e-waste with wet or dry household garbage and instead keep discarded electronic items separately for collection by the authorised agency. Residents can book a pickup by scanning the QR code or calling the helpline 8335955000.The campaign will cover computers, laptops, monitors, mobile phones, tablets, printers, scanners, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, geysers, microwave ovens, kitchen appliances, batteries, cells, chargers, cables, routers, switches, stabilisers, inverters, UPS systems, circuit boards, home theatre and audio systems, as well as LED, LCD and CRT televisions.Under the four-step collection process, residents can request a pickup through the helpline or QR code, following which a convenient date and time will be scheduled. The ‘AdMyBin’ team will collect the e-waste from the specified location and provide the applicable value. The material will then be sent through authorised channels for safe handling and scientific recycling.
