Dhubri: A man accused of practising Ayurvedic medicine without valid credentials was arrested in Dhubri after a health department operation.The accused, identified as CK Rahman, was allegedly practising near Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for a long period, officials said. He reportedly came to Dhubri from Cooch Behar in West Bengal and treated patients from an unregistered pharmacy.Rahman was detained during the operation and handed over to the Dhubri police. He is being questioned at Dhubri Sadar Police Station.Officials said Rahman claimed to hold an “alternative medicine” degree obtained through an NGO. However, the health department found that he lacked the qualifications and registration required to practise medicine.Dhubri joint director of health services Dr Jyoti Prasad Das said the department acted after verifying Rahman’s credentials.“We verified his credentials and found that he did not have the valid qualifications or registration required to practise Ayurvedic medicine. Accordingly, the health department conducted an operation and detained him. The matter has been handed over to the police for further legal action,” Dr Das said.Police are investigating how long Rahman allegedly practised, the treatment he provided, and whether others helped operate the pharmacy, a police source said.
