Gurgaon: Two women and a three-year-old boy died after a truck smashed into an overcrowded three-wheeler from behind when it braked for a speedbreaker near Kanwarsika village on Sohna-Nuh Road early on Saturday. The vehicle, meant to carry goods but packed with 14 people, including five children, overturned in the impact, leaving several others injured.The crash took place around 2.25am as the family was returning to Gurgaon from Agra after attending a relative’s wedding. They work in the NCR city selling incense sticks.Pitarpal, one of the injured passengers, said the auto had slowed suddenly because of a speedbreaker when the truck hit it from the rear. “There were 14 people in the vehicle. As the driver braked, a truck rammed us from behind and the auto overturned. Three people seated in front died. Those sitting behind were injured. My sister-in-law also died in the accident. The truck driver fled with the vehicle,” he added.Passersby alerted the police control room, after which a team from Rojka Meo police station reached the spot and shifted the victims to the civil hospital in Nuh. Doctors declared three persons dead, while some of the injured were referred to a Delhi hospital because of their critical condition.The three who died were Chandni (20), Shanti (22) and Mridul (3), all from Uttar Pradesh but were living in Gurgaon. Archna, Mridul’s mother, was among those injured and is undergoing treatment.Sub-inspector Daya Chand said police rushed to the spot after receiving information and later handed over the bodies to the families after an autopsy.A case was registered at Rojka Meo police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to establish the sequence of events and trace the truck driver.
