Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over 50 motorcycles to Assam Police on Sunday.The motorcycles were handed over at Lok Sewa Bhawan complex in Dispur to strengthen traffic management, patrolling, law enforcement and emergency response.Provided under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the motorcycles will help police personnel move faster through congested roads.During the event, Sarma rode one of the motorcycles within Janata Bhawan complex while wearing a helmet, highlighting the importance of road safety and responsible riding.“The motorcycles will also play an important role in ensuring a faster police response to road accidents, traffic congestion and other emergencies,” Sarma said.The motorcycles, specially prepared for Assam Police, feature Assam Police logos and branding. They are equipped with 440cc engines, six-speed transmissions with assist-and-slipper clutches, dual-channel anti-lock braking systems (ABS), front and rear disc brakes and full-LED lighting.Traffic police personnel also received specialised training in traffic management, road safety, law enforcement and emergency response as part of the initiative.Police officers said the motorcycles would improve the operational efficiency of traffic personnel.DGP Harmeet Singh, Guwahati Police commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta and senior police and other officials attended the programme.
