Guwahati: A range forest officer has been placed under suspension with immediate effect following allegations of involvement in corrupt practices. A departmental inquiry is underway.The suspension order signed by Sandeep Kumar, principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) and heads of forest force, states, “… Imtiaz Ahmed, forester-I, office of the divisional forest officer, North Kamrup division, Rangia, is hereby placed under suspension under the provisions of the Assam Services (Disciplinary & Appeal) Rules, 1964, on account of allegedly indulging in corrupt practices….”Forest minister Jayanta Mallabaruh said Assam govt follows a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. “Upon receiving reports regarding alleged illegal collection of money and irregularities in the Hajo Forest Range, we directed for immediate action. Accordingly, range forest officer Imtiaz Ahmed has been placed under suspension,” he said. “No individual is above the law. Any official found misusing his position, facilitating illegal activities, or indulging in corrupt practices will face strict action, irrespective of rank or position,” he added.He further said under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, the govt’s commitment remains unwavering towards transparent governance, accountability and the protection of Assam’s forests and natural resources.
