BAHADURGARH: The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at City Bahadurgarh police station for allegedly accepting a Rs 1.5 lakh bribe in exchange for removing the names of three people from a criminal case.The accused has been identified as ASI Naveen (No. 688/JJR), who was posted as an investigating officer at City Bahadurgarh police station.A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the SV&ACB police station in Rohtak. The FIR was registered as FIR No. 30 dated September 21, 2026.Complaint received at 5pm, eight-member team formedSV&ACB inspector Devender said the bureau received information about the alleged bribe demand at around 5pm on Monday. Following the complaint, a team was constituted to verify the allegations and conduct a trap.According to Devender, officials from Rohtak and Jhajjar units jointly carried out the operation, with a total of eight personnel deployed for the trap.The inspector said the team conducted the operation as per procedure and caught ASI Naveen red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 1.5 lakh.Rs 3 lakh allegedly demanded initiallyAccording to the information provided by SV&ACB, the complainant alleged that ASI Naveen had initially demanded Rs 3 lakh as a bribe.The complainant alleged that the money was sought in exchange for removing the names of his wife Anu Chahal, sister-in-law Jannat and father-in-law Dharmendra from a criminal case.The alleged bribe amount was subsequently negotiated and settled at Rs 1.5 lakh, according to the bureau.The case in which the three names were allegedly sought to be removed is FIR No. 502 dated December 7, 2024, registered at City Bahadurgarh police station under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against the complainant’s mother-in-law, Sunita Chahal, according to SV&ACB.The bureau said the complainant had alleged that the ASI demanded the money for removing the names of his wife, sister-in-law and father-in-law from the case.Inspector Devender said ASI Naveen will be produced before the court on Tuesday. He added that further action would be taken after the court proceedings and that the investigation into the case is continuing.The vigilance team is examining the alleged demand for money, the transaction and other facts related to the case.The action was carried out by the SV&ACB unit, Jhajjar, with the Rohtak team also participating in the trap operation.The SV&ACB has said that action against officials and employees allegedly involved in bribery will continue under Haryana’s stated zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
