Armed Bikers Shoot At Gold Trader, Flee With Cash And Jewellery

Howrah: A 42-year-old gold trader, Pallav Saha, was shot in the leg and hand and robbed of cash and jewellery near Patihal bus stand under Jagatballavpur police station in Howrah, police said.The incident triggered protests by the locals on Saturday. The attack took place on Friday, when Saha closed his showroom and was preparing to return home on his motorcycle.Cops and locals said two bike-borne men tried to snatch his bag.Saha resisted the robbery but one of the accused fired at him. The attackers then escaped.Traders informed police, who took him to Howrah District Hospital. Later, his family shifted him to a private hospital in the city.

Police said doctors operated on his leg to remove a bullet.Howrah Rural Police has started an investigation and recovered a country-made pistol and cartridges. A senior officer said investigators were scanning CCTV footage. “The suspects wore helmets, and the registration number of their motorcycle appeared to be fake,” the officer said.
