ANTF to probe Rajjit Hundal’s benami properties, bank accounts

Mohali: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has been granted two more days’ police remand of dismissed AIG Rajjit Singh Hundal to investigate his alleged benami properties and bank accounts and trace the financial links related to the case.Hundal was produced before the Mohali special court on Tuesday after his earlier police remand expired. Seeking further custody, the ANTF told the court that Hundal was not cooperating with the investigation and had yet to be questioned about alleged benami properties, bank accounts and other financial records. The investigating agency said it would examine the documents and bank records to trace the links of alleged financial transactions connected with the case. The court allowed the two-day police remand and set Oct 8 for Hundal’s next production. The case is separate from the earlier proceedings linked to FIR No. 1 of 2017, registered against then inspector Inderjit Singh. During the investigation into the case, allegations of collusion with drug smugglers and other serious matters surfaced. A three-member special investigation team was later constituted on the orders of the Punjab and Haryana high court to probe Hundal’s alleged role.Hundal, who was dismissed from service by the Punjab govt in 2023, was earlier arrested in a fresh NDPS case from the court premises. He had subsequently been sent to four days’ police remand in connection with the proceedings related to FIR No. 1 of 2017.The ANTF is now examining Hundal’s alleged financial links, including properties and bank accounts, as part of the investigation in the new case.
