Annamalai likely to enter Rajya Sabha from AP | Hyderabad News

Vijayawada: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is likely to get a Rajya Sabha seat from Andhra Pradesh. Out of the four Rajya Sabha positions going vacant in June, the NDA partners are said to have chalked out a seat-sharing formula. TDP president and AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu agreed to give one seat each to BJP and Jana Sena, while retaining two for TDP.According to sources in the BJP state unit, the party’s central leadership is considering the name of Annamalai for Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh. Unless the equations change drastically after the Tamil Nadu election results, the former IPS officer is likely to be sent to the Upper House from AP, said a senior BJP functionary. With 21 MLAs, Jana Sena is also looking to make its debut in the Upper House of Parliament. Party president and deputy chief minister K Pawan Kalyan is reportedly considering the name of close aide Lingamaneni Ramesh, sources said. The list of aspirants from TDP is long, and Naidu is considering various permutations and combinations to pick the two candidates. If Sana Satish, who is said to be close to IT minister Nara Lokesh, retains his seat, the TDP will have only one seat to be filled. However, sources said Satish may be dropped as he was given the party vice-president position and the TDP high command is also considering sending him as special representative to Delhi. If Satish is not given a chance, Kilaru Rajesh, who has now stepped into the shoes of Lokesh as the party’s national general secretary and is also considered one of his close confidants, may get the nod. Naidu is also said to be considering the name of Krishna Ella, the chairperson of Bharath Biotech. Krishna has a long-standing association with Naidu, and sources said he has a bright chance if the TDP chief decides to pick a neutral face. The names of former ministers Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, former MP Kambampati Rammohan Rao, and senior functionary Varla Ramaiah are also doing the rounds.
