AMRITSAR: Amritsar Rural police have arrested Harpinder Kaur, mother of gangster-turned-terrorist Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia, in connection with the grenade attack on a house in Jattan village of Ajnala tehsil and secured her two-day police remand for questioning.Passia is currently reported to be in US custody.Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal informed on Monday that the investigation was underway and more arrests were likely in the coming days.“The investigation is in progress. Harpinder Kaur, mother of Happy Passia, has been arrested and taken on two-day police remand. His sister Kirandeep Kaur is absconding. We are investigating the matter and more arrests are likely in the near future,” the SSP said.Reports suggest that the suspects might have fled towards Himachal Pradesh following the attack.Police sources informed that four teams, including personnel from the CIA, have been constituted to investigate the incident.Sources informed that police are examining CCTV footage and mobile tower locations to establish the movements and route taken by the suspected attackers. Investigators believe the motorcycle-borne accused fled from Ramdas towards Himachal Pradesh shortly after the incident.The attack took place on August 21 when two masked men allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and hurled two hand grenades at a house in Jattan village.The explosions damaged the house and left three persons injured. They were admitted to hospital but discharged following treatment.The incident had initially been investigated as a possible fallout of a family dispute linked to the village sarpanch election involving the family of Happy Passia.Now, police said they were examining the case from multiple angles, including personal and gangster-related rivalry.Police sources informed that forensic teams examined the scene and collected evidence to determine the nature of the explosive devices. Police have also questioned members of the affected family and local residents as part of the investigation.
