Amritsar: Jailed MP and Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) chief Amritpal Singh may contest the forthcoming Punjab assembly elections from two constituencies, with party cadres having begun preparations for his electoral battle.Party chief spokesperson Shamsher Singh Padhri said the party had, in principle, decided that Amritpal would contest the polls. “He may contest from not one but even two assembly constituencies. The final decision on the seats is yet to be taken,” he said, adding that reports of Amritpal contesting against the chief minister were “just a rumour”.Amritpal was elected to the Lok Sabha from Khadoor Sahib in 2024, defeating runner-up Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira by over 2.1 lakh votes. “Given his previous electoral performance, we are confident that Amritpal will secure another emphatic victory,” a party source said, adding that preparations for his assembly campaign had begun. On a possible alliance, Padhri said there was no such consideration at present. “Today, we have established a strong base and identity, and have a large and steadily growing following across Punjab. However, anyone willing to enter into an alliance with us is welcome,” he said.
