Ghaziabad: A man and his mother have been granted anticipatory bail in a dowry harassment case. His wife, in her complaint, had accused him of allegedly filming obscene videos and circulating them on social media. The court, however, granted them relief after noting that no evidence supporting the allegation had been brought on record. It also noted that the FIR was registered four months after the alleged offence.A woman, Amreen, filed a complaint against her husband Salman and mother-in-law Shamima at the Sahibabad police station, alleging mental and physical torture for dowry. She also told the cops that Salman recorded obscene videos of her and posted them online. An FIR was registered against them for dowry harassment, physical and mental torture, intentional insult to breach the peace, criminal intimidation, use of force to outrage the modesty of a woman and under sections 66E and 67 of the IT Act for violation of privacy and circulation of obscene material on July 25.Salman’s counsel told the court he married Amreen on May 13 last year. He did not take any dowry during the wedding. “After marriage, they lived away from the family at a rented house, and during these 10 months, he neither assaulted her nor demanded any dowry,” the counsel said. He added that Salman had never recorded any video of his wife or uploaded it to any social media platform.Moreover, the counsel claimed that the FIR was registered against the two for an alleged crime that occurred between May 13 last year and March 18, but no specific dates had been mentioned. He also highlighted that there was a four-month gap between the alleged crime and the date of the FIR but no reason had been cited for the delay.The court noted that although it was claimed that electronic pornography had been shared, no video clips or photographs of the alleged obscene material were included in the case diary. The woman also alleged that on March 18, 2026, all the accused assaulted her together, yet no medical or injury report was provided. The applicants contended that the case was filed four months after the alleged incident. In view of these circumstances, the court held that the applicants could be granted protection from arrest.It allowed the anticipatory bail request and directed that if Salman and Shamima are arrested, they should be released once each submits a Rs 75,000 personal bond and two sureties for the same amount. The court also ordered that they must attend all trial hearings in person or through counsel, must not attempt to influence or intimidate anyone involved in the case, and must not travel outside India without the court’s permission.
