Amid rent row, 2 on scooter fire 10 rounds at vacant house

Ghaziabad: Two unidentified persons on a scooter fired more than 10 rounds at a vacant house in Sahibabad on Monday. Police found a chit bearing the threat, ‘Agli baari teri’ (You are next) in the front yard of a neighbour. The property’s owner, based in Delhi, has been pursuing a rent recovery case at the ADM court against former tenant Sanjay Gupta, who vacated the premises three months ago after allegedly defaulting on rent for more than 18 months.The house owner Asha Rani’s son, Sachin Kumar, filed a complaint at the Sahibabad police station. He told the cops that around 11pm on Monday, two unidentified men opened fire at our house. “I suspect our former tenant, Sanjay Gupta, is behind it. A piece of paper has been found in the house of our neighbour Bharat Singh. It bears a threat message,” he said.Sachin said he had rented out the house to Sanjay Gupta in 2024. In 2025, when he asked him to vacate the house, he refused and stopped paying rent. He took the matter to the ADM court. On the court’s order, Gupta vacated the house in March 2026, and Sachin filed a case against him for the recovery of outstanding rent. “A hearing was scheduled for the case on Tuesday,” he said.According to eyewitnesses, the men fired several rounds in quick succession. The sudden firing created panic in the area. A car parked near an adjacent house was also damaged . A police team found 12 empty cartridges at the spot. A forensic team also collected evidence. An initial investigation linked the matter to the old rivalry and the dispute over vacating the house.ACP Amit Saxena said information about the firing was received around 11 pm. They reached out to the house owner Asha Rani, who lives in Shahdara. An FIR has been registered against Sanjay Gupta and unidentified persons under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety or others) and 351(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of BNS. “Teams have been formed to nab the accused while police teams are also checking the CCTV cameras of the nearby areas,” he said.
