Kalyan: A seven-year-old boy is battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mumbai’s KEM Hospital after being mercilessly thrashed by his mother’s live-in partner. Police arrested accused Vikas Singh, 25, for allegedly attacking the child and kicking him in his private parts because he resented the boy sleeping next to his mother, viewing him as an obstacle to their sexual intimacy.According to police sources, the boy’s 38-year-old mother (name changed to protect identity) had left her husband and two older children to move into Singh’s house in Ambernath along with her youngest son.Tensions reportedly brewed over the past few weeks as Singh frequently expressed anger toward the seven-year-old for sleeping alongside his mother. The child had earlier complained to his mother that Singh beat him in her absence when she left for work. While she had warned Singh against harming her son, the violence escalated drastically on July 17.In a fit of rage, Singh launched a horrific assault on the minor, brutally beating him and kicking him. The child sustained severe internal injuries and collapsed.Panic-stricken, the mother first rushed her son to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar. As his condition rapidly worsened, doctors referred him to Mumbai’s Sion Hospital, from where he was subsequently shifted to KEM Hospital due to the critical nature of his injuries. The child remains under close medical observation in the ICU.The Ambernath Police have acted swiftly following the mother’s complaint. “We have registered a case and arrested the accused, Vikas Singh, for the brutal assault on the minor boy. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” said Shabbir Sayyed, senior police inspector of Ambernath police station. — Pradeep Gupta
