Mira Road: Police saved a family of four, including two young children, from an alleged suicide attempt from a bridge in Mira Road early on Monday. Police said the family was in financial distress.Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar police’s control room alerted Kashigaon police stationaround 2am that a 28-year-old man was allegedly attempting to end his life, along with his wife and their two daughters, aged one and two, by jumping off Fountain Bridge. Beat marshals Santosh Kokre and Vikas Mohite immediately rushed to the spot. In less than 20 minutes, they located the family and safely brought them away from the bridge.During questioning, the man, a resident of Mira Road, said he worked as a delivery agent. A few months ago, he had borrowed around Rs 3.5 lakh from his sister after pledging gold ornaments. As his financial condition worsened, his sister allegedly began asking him to redeem the gold ornaments, sell them and pay off the loan.Police said the financial strain and the dispute with his sister left the man distressed. He allegedly decided to take the extreme step along with his wife and children. “The moment we received the information, beat marshals were alerted and they immediately rushed to the spot. Their timely intervention helped avert a major tragedy,” said sub-inspector Harish Patil.
