Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav addresses a press conference at the party office in Lucknow on Sunday

Lucknow: Stepping up attack on BJP govt, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday took a swipe on the chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent promise that one lakh youths would be provided jobs in the next few months and said that the announcement was made just ahead of assembly polls.“Elections are round the corner and they are saying that one lakh jobs will be given. The model code of conduct will come into force after Jan,” Akhilesh said at a news conference here.He also alleged that the govt had failed the poor.“Many people are forced to resort to begging outside temples, and then there are some who steal from inside temples,” he said, in an apparent reference to donation theft at Ram Temple in Ayodhya.“People may beg outside temples but even a beggar dares not steal from temple. But BJP is an ‘adharmi (irreligious)’ party that steals from donation offered to the deity,” Akhilesh said.“These adulterators are now adulterating the petrol we use,” the former CM said, referring to the controversy over ethanol blending.Akhilesh promised that 26,000 primary schools, which were closed during BJP rule, would be reopened if the SP formed govt in the state.“Closure of schools affected children from PDA communities. They do not want people from PDA communities to get education,” he claimed. He reiterated his demand for caste census, and rights for backward classes.Meanwhile, in a post on X, Akhilesh claimed that honest officials in Uttar Pradesh are being forced to commit acts that are “unethical and illegal”.He alleged that officials were being forced to indulge in corruption through commissions, manipulate tenders to favour BJP workers, turn transfers and postings into a business and facilitate collection through donation slips.
