AIADMK man threatens poll officials, held

Chennai: A case has been registered against an AIADMK functionary for allegedly obstructing and threatening election officials during a search operation at his residence in Pulianthope. The officials visited the house after a tip-off about cash for distribution to voters. However, no cash was recovered. The accused, Ranjith Kumar, is an autorickshaw driver and district representative of AIADMK of North Chennai south-west district. After the search, when officials attempted to leave the premises, a group of more than 15 AIADMK cadres gathered outside and raised slogans. They demanded that the officials produce authorisation documents for the search. Police said Ranjith Kumar verbally abused the flying squad officer Mohammed Naufil, and prevented him from leaving the house. A case has been registered against Ranjith Kumar. Police said he was absconding.
