Guwahati: A 25-year-old Guwahati woman was allegedly killed by her husband after a quarrel, police said on Monday.The victim, Riya Talukdar Goswami, was found decapitated in a flat, with her severed head packed in a polythene bag inside the refrigerator. Police said her fingers had also been cut off.The couple got married on Sept 22 last year.The incident occurred on Sept 3 morning after a quarrel between Riya and her husband, Ramanuj Goswami. It came to light after Ramanuj surrendered on Sunday night, and police also received information about a foul smell from the flat.DCP Tabu Ram Pegu said, “The accused has confessed to the crime and disclosed certain details. The accused and the victim used to quarrel frequently over various issues. On Sept 3 morning, during an argument, he allegedly lost his temper and hacked her to death.”A local court here has sent the accused to police custody for seven days.Pegu added that Ramanuj accused his wife of being involved in an extramarital affair, which he claimed was a frequent cause of quarrels between them.“The investigation is at a preliminary stage. We are examining all relevant facts and verifying available information. The accused said the quarrel continued until the morning and, unable to tolerate the situation, he took the extreme step. We will interrogate him to establish the sequence of events,” the DCP said.Police recovered and seized a “dao” allegedly used in the crime, along with other evidence, Pegu added.He said police were examining the circumstances leading to the incident. “At this point, we have not been able to establish all those circumstances conclusively,” Pegu added.The body was sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.Ramanuj is from Gauripur in Dhubri district and was living in Guwahati for the past few years, police said.
