Ahmedabad: SOG nabs two in Naroda with MD worth Rs 8.8L

Ahmedabad: The city crime branch’s Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested two men and seized 88 grams of mephedrone, also known as methamphetamine, valued at Rs 8.8 lakh from the Naroda area on Thursday. Police said the accused were earlier booked in prohibition cases and had allegedly turned to drug trafficking to earn quick money.According to officials, the SOG team was patrolling under the supervision of senior crime branch officers when it received a tip-off about the illegal narcotics movement near Chamunda Motor Garage on the Nana Chiloda-Naroda Road. Acting on the information, police intercepted two suspects and recovered 87.780 grams of the banned synthetic drug from their possession.Police identified the accused as a 28-year-old labourer from Naroda and a 34-year-old driver from Nana Chiloda. Besides the narcotics, police also seized other items, taking the total value of the recovered muddamal to Rs 11.9 lakh.An FIR was registered at the DCB police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, including charges related to possession and criminal conspiracy.During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that they procured the drugs from a Rajasthan-based supplier. Police said the supplier allegedly dispatched consignments through an associate for delivery in Ahmedabad, where the accused allegedly sold the contraband in smaller quantities to local consumers.Officials said efforts are underway to trace the Rajasthan-based network and identify other individuals involved in the supply chain.
