Ahmedabad: Tuesday remained a wet day, with various parts of the city getting light drizzle to moderate rain. Between 10am and 4pm, Ahmedabad recorded an average rainfall of 17.6mm. The city’s Kathwada area recorded the highest rainfall at 28.5mm.Maktampura recorded 27mm, Nikol logged 23mm, Kotarpur received 23mm, Sardarnagar recorded 21.5mm with Chandkheda close behind at 20.5mm. Hanspura recorded 20.5mm, Viratnagar 20mm, Ramol logged 20mm, Odhav, Asarwa, Naroda and Vatva got 19.5mm, while Kalupur recorded 19mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, 18.5mm of rain was recorded in Vastral, Ranip, Motera, Bakrol and Memco. Areas like Paldi, Ognaj, Danapith, Navrangpura, Bodakdev and Memnagar recorded less than 1mm of rain. AMC received nine complaints of waterlogging, and one complaint of road settlement. East Zone recorded 20.6mm, West Zone got 16.86 mm of rain, the North West Zone logged 14.7mm, the South-West Zone received 15.9mm, 17.6mm of rainfall was recorded in the Central Zone, 21mm in the North Zone, and 16mm in the South Zone. The city so far has recorded a seasonal average of 92.2mm of rain.THAT SINKING FEELINGRains have barely arrived, but the city’s roads are already showing signs of strain. Civic records reveal that 2,028 potholes and road cave-ins have surfaced so far, including 1,739 potholes besides 288 sink-ins triggered by damaged drainage or water lines.An AMC-duty truck passing near APMC in Vasna was partially swallowed when a gaping sinkhole opened up beneath it after the road surface caved in.

Elsewhere, a trailer got stuck in a sink-in on a newly laid road near Khodiyar Mata temple in New Ranip. Road settlement was also reported near Anand Niketan School in Thaltej ward, while a fresh pothole emerged near Vadaj Circle.AMC officials said that of the 2,028 potholes and sink-ins recorded so far, 1,971 have been repaired, while work on the remaining 57 is underway.
